The action mechanism of Generic Arimidex (Anastrozole) is by inhibiting the synthesis of estrogen, which is responsible for the growth of tumor in post-menopausal women. Anastrozole is an off-white powder with systematic name 2,2'-[5-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)-1,3-phenylene]bis(2-methylpropanenitrile). The empirical formula of this ingredient is C17H19N5 and the molecular mass is 293.366 g/mol. Anastrolzole is soluble in methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, acetone, acetonitrile and tetrahydrofuran. The tablet prepared from Anastrozole also contain few inactive ingredients such as povidone, lactose, sodium starch glycol, polyethylene glycol, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, and magnesium salt.
Anastrozole is helpful in binding the aromatase enzyme by using competitive inhibition, resulting in conversion of androgens to estrogens in peripheral tissues.
