The main ingredient in Generic Imodium is Loperamide hydrochloride. This ingredient has a chemical name as 4-(p-chlorophenyl)-4-hydroxy-N, N-dimethyl- a, a-diphenyl-piperidinebutyramide monohydrochloride. The inactive ingredients are magnesium stearate, talc, cornstarch and lactose.
Loperamide hydrochloride, after oral consumption, slows down the process of digestion, so that the intestines get more time to absorb essential nutrients and fluids from the foods, which you eat and drink. This is possible only when your peristalsis movement is reduced. Loperamide reduces peristalsis movement by inhibiting the secretion of acetylcholine. In addition, it improves the tone of anal sphincter, reducing urgency and incontinence.
