Generic Renova Retin-A contains 0.02% contain the active ingredient Tretinoin. Tretinoin is a light orange to yellowing crystalline powder which has a floral odor. This substance is freely soluble in dimethylsulfoxide but slightly soluble in octanol, ethanol 100% and polyethylene glycol 400. The substance is insoluble in mineral oil, water and glycerine. It is also chemically called as (all-E)-3,7-dimethyl-9-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclonexen-1-yl)-2,4,6,8-nonatetraenoic acid. ATRA that stands for All-Trans Retinoic Acid is another name given to the substance. Tretinoin has the molecular weight of 300.44.
The exact action mechanism of Tretinoin is not clearly understood, but recent studies have suggested that it reduces adherence of follicular skin cells and decreases the formation of microcomedo.
