The active ingredient in Generic Tobrex is Tobramycin. The chemical formula is (2S,3R,4S,5S,6R)-4-amino-2-{[(1S,2S,3R,4S,6R)-4,6-diamino-3-{[(2R,3R,5S,6R)-3-amino-6-(aminomethyl)-5-hydroxyoxan-2-yl]oxy}-2-hydroxycyclohexyl]oxy}-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxane-3,5-diol. Its formula is C18H37N5O9 with a molecular weight of 467.515 g/mol. The strength of the solution is 3 mg in 1 ml. 0.1 mg of benzalkonium chloride is also present in it along with other inactive ingredients such as hydrogen borate, sulfuric acid, sodium chloride, tyloxapol, water, sodium sulfate and sodium hydroxide.
The antimicrobial activity of Tobramycin is usually bactericidal, which means, it destroys the pathogenic bacilli.
Usage Instructions
Use Generic Tobrex ophthalmic solution as indicated on the label or as instructed by your physician.
Make sure you remove your contact lenses, before using the solution.
Wash your hands first and then draw out your lower eyelid to form a pocket, drop the solution in the pocket and slowly close your eye. Let the solution be absorbed by the eye, you may apply a gentle pressure to the corner of the eyelid. Keep your eyes closed for about two minutes.
Cap the solution tightly once used. Do not let the solution contaminate, make sure you do not touch the applicator to the eye during administration.
Generic Tobrex dosage differs from patient-to-patient, for adult patients it is usually one or two drops in four to six hours. The dosing may change with the ongoing treatment.
