Generic Zantac (Ranitidine) is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist with chemical name N-(2-[(5-[(dimethylamino)methyl]furan-2-yl)methylthio]ethyl)-N'-methyl-2-nitroethene-1,1-diamin. The empirical formula of this ingredient is C13H22N4O3S with molecular mass 314.4 g/mol. The color of this ingredient is white or pale yellowish with granular like substance, which is soluble in water. The odor of this ingredient is sulfur-like with bitter taste. The medicine prepared from Ranitidine contains inactive ingredients such as magnesium salt, sodium bicarbonate, povidone, monosodium citrate, croscarmellose sodium, hypromellose, sodium phosphates and sodium benzoate.
Ranitidine is a drug that inhibits the mechanism of histamine at the histamine H2 receptors that are found in gastric (stomach) cells, which means it inhibits the production of stomach acid. Due to its action on gastro-intestinal tract, it is also used in treating peptic ulcers (gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers).
