The active ingredient in Generic Zyban is Bupropion Hydrochloride. It is chemically denoted as (±)-2-(tert-Butylamino)-1-(3-chlorophenyl)propan-1-one hydrochloride and the chemical formula is C13H18ClNO•HCl. The molecule mass is 239.74 g/mol. Bupropion Hydrochloride is lucid, highly soluble in water and white. It has a bitter taste and produces the sensation of local anesthesia on the oral mucous membrane. Generic Zyban is available in sustained-release tablets of 150 mg.
The exact action mechanism of Generic Zyban in promoting patients to stop smoking is unclear. However, it is presumed that it acts on certain neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. The drug Bupropion is a selective inhibitor of neuronal reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine.
Generic Zyban should be taken as instructed on the product packaging or as directed by your physician.
Do not use in higher or lesser quantities or longer than recommended.
Quitting smoking is a gradual process; you may continue to smoke in the first week of starting the medication. Set a target date in mind by the second week.
The usual dosing regimen is 150 mg given two times a day. Dosing usually starts with one pill for the first three days and then increased to two per day. The maximum and recommended dose of Generic Zyban is 300 mg per day. Keep a time difference of at least eight hours before you take your second dose.

Avoid overdose or abuse of this medication, as doing so may lead to medical complications like seizures.
Usually, the duration of treatment with Generic Zyban is for around 7 to 12 weeks. If you are not able to quit smoking even after using this medicine for 12 weeks, it is unlikely that you will quit, and the treatment should be discontinued.
