It is often used in combination with sun protection measures, which include the use of sunscreen. Generic Tri-Luma contains three medicinal drugs viz. Hydroquinone, Flucinolone acetonide and Tretinoin. Hence, it is a depigmentation agent, keratolytic and topical corticosteroid.

The Generic Tri-Luma Cream contains the following active ingredients 4% of hydroquinone (40 mg in 1 g), 0.01% of fluocinolone acetonide (0.1 mg in 1 g) and 0.05% of tretinoin (0.5 mg in 1 g). Hydroquinone is chemically known as 1,4-benzenediol. The molecular formula is C6H6O2 and molecule’s weight is 110.11. Fluocinolone acetonide is chemically denoted as (6α,11β,16α) - 6,9 - difluoro - 11,21 - dihydroxy - 16,17 - [(1 - methylethylidene)bis(oxy)] - pregna - 1, - 4 - diene - 3,20 - dione. The molecular formula is C24H30F2O6 and molecular mass is 452.50. Tretinoin is chemically named as (all - E) - 3,7 - dimethyl - 9 - (2,6,6 - trimethyl - 1 - cyclohexen - 1 - yl) - 2,4,6,8 - nonatetraenoic acid. Its molecular formula is C20H28O2 and molecular mass is 300.44.
The exact action mechanism of this cream in clearing melasma is idiopathic, but it acts as a depigmentation agent with the help of its three active components.
Generic Tri-Luma cream is meant only for external use.
Use the cream as directed by your physician, refer to the medicinal leaflet that comes with the tube, and ask your pharmacist if you have any questions about the application.
Make sure your hands are clean before you use the cream.
Apply it half an hour before you go to sleep.
Clean your face and neck with a mild cleansing agent. Wash and pat the skin dry. Apply a thin coat of the cream to the areas, which are darkened. Rub gently until the cream is equally distributed.
Generic Tri-Luma may increase the effects of the sun on your body and you may suffer from sunburns more easily. Use protective clothing and do not use tanning booths unless the effects of the cream are well known.
Do not apply it on a sunburnt skin.
Changes in the weather may cause irritation to the skin if you are using the cream.
Consult your prescribing physician before use in children.
Do not cover the area, which has to be treated unless advised by the physician.
If the cream gets into your mouth or nose, wash it thoroughly with water.
Do not use the cream on open wounds.

There are no specific medications that are known to interact with Generic Tri-Luma. However, to be on the safer side, inform your doctor about the medications or the skin products you are using.
